My wife and I are planning a Overseas delivery of a Volvo and subsequent tour of Sweden. I am concerned about safe on-site parking at hotels near Stockholm while we roam the city using public transportation. Any recommendations? I'm looking for one that is near subway or bus stop? Same question for Copenhagen also.
I drove into these cities twenty years ago and don't recall any unexpected challenges at that time. If you stay in a residential neighborhood, you have a better chance of on-street parking, which the owner could explain to you. For Copenhagen B&Bs, try www.bbdk.dk. Rick's Scandinavia book notes that the Stockholm Tourist Office hands out a parking brochure, but meanwhile, this link might help: http://www.car-parking.eu/sweden/stockholm. Google maps can also help you find "parking garages near Stockholm," etc. Rick also lists this hotel on Langholmen island (15-min walk from T-Bahn Hornstull station) that definitely has parking: www.langholmen.com.
We had a car, and stayed at Villa Kallhagen near the maritime museum. It's a short walk from Djurgarden, or a 3 minute bus ride with a bus stop in front of the hotel. Hotel is very quiet, and fairly small, with free parking. I left my car there for several days and used my Stockholm card for all attractions and transportation..
