Stockholm Hotel

My husband is investigating hotels for our June 2025 visit. Some on the forum have mentioned Hotel Esplanade but we or trying to find a place a little cheaper. Does anyone have thoughts on Hotel Freys or any other suggestions? We ways appreciate the forum’s opinions. They have been very helpful in our past travels.
Thank you

If, by any chance, you have Best Western points, Hotel Esplanade is a Best Western property. I used points to pay for 3 of my nights there.

Freys hotel seems like a popular hotel in general. The drawback is the area around the central station can be a bit boring. It gets nicer as you get closer to Hötorget but there are other parts of the city that can be better options to stay in. Unless this is a very short visit and you value the excellent access to transportation that comes with a location close to the central station.

Have a look at Hotel Hornsgatan (with/without en suite), which is a very cozy, centrally located place with rooms in the older main building and close by. Consider Rex Hotel or Hotel Hellsten also. Book direct like Rick Steves recommends for the best rate. Frey's seems a bit bland to me. I never choose to stay there.

Thank you for the replies. We think we are choosing Hotel Hellsten. However, my husband just found Bern Hotel. Any thoughts regarding our final decision between the two?

There are three hotels in Stockholm whose names include "Hellsten" or "Hellstens". What's the address of the one you're considering? << spellings corrected >>

I don't see a Bern Hotel in the city. Do you mean Berns Hotel?

You must mean Berns Hotel, which is supposed to be close to top of the line, with a sterling location. I often consider staying there but have temporarily decided that I can't afford it. There seems to be a quality breakfast too. The regular Hotel Hellsten or Hellstens Malmgård seem to both have more charm in comparison.
