Stockholm City Hall - Is It Difficult to Get Tickets for the 10 am English Tour?

Hi, do any of you have experience getting tickets for the first guided tour of the day at Stockholm City Hall, during peak travel season?

We are in Stockholm in early August for a couple days. We have an aggressive sightseeing itinerary. For our itinerary to work, we need to do the Stockholm City Hall guided tour at 10 am. Unfortunately, you cannot buy tickets online in advance.

Per the City Hall's website, a guided tour is the only way to visit City Hall. You buy the tickets for the guided tour on the same day as your visit, at the City Hall Shop. The ticket office opens at 08.30.

Are we going to need to line up by 8:30 am to get tickets to the 10 am tour? Or, is there enough guided tour capacity that you could show up, say at 9:30 or 9:45 am, and be able to join a 10 am tour?

I have no idea, have you sent them an email and asked them? They might have an idea. Something to take into account is if there are any cruise ships in Stockholm that day, those passengers can fill up a tour or two.

Good idea! There is a City Hall guided tour contact email, so I'll send out Sunday night, and report back. I suspect they will be non-committal, but you never know.

For future reference, in case fellow travelers have a similar question, here's how the City Hall tour office responded to my email:

"I understand the predicament as it is not possible to prepurchase our tickets. We cannot know for sure how this summer will turn out, but we generally have our peak in number of visitors during July and the beginning of August. For that reason, I recommend you to, if possible, be here at 8.30 to buy your ticket to the 10.00 am tour. It could suffice to be here 20 or 30 minutes before the start of the tour, but we cannot make any promises. During summer season, we will also have tours in English starting already at 9.30, if that would help to plan your itinerary. Please let us know of you have any further questions. You are warmly welcome in August!"

We will probably make a decision the day before. FYI, Rick also gives 1 star to the separate City Hall Tower visit, which takes about 35 minutes, with first admission at 9:15 am. If we do then get to the ticket office at 8:30, we would have time to add this. Alternatively, we could do an early fika!

I hope you manage to solve the problem. Unfortunately I can't help. I've never taken a guided tour of the city hall, but I've been there a number of times. And while it is a beautiful building, don't cry if you're not able to secure a spot on a tour. There are many other things to see.

But, 9 would be a bit early for a fika…
