I understand that one of the must-do's if you have several days in Stockholm is a boat tour of the archipelago.- presuming this takes most of a day....? Does anyone have any experience with this to report on? Any recommendations as to which to select? We'll be there the end of June.
It can take most of the day, or a full day, if that is want you want to do. But there are also many options for shorter trips.
There are an assortment of longer and shorter boat tours. I'd say it depends on how much time you have and which destinations interest you. I've taken several boat tours with Strömma. You could do a shorter one to Vaxholm or to Drottningholm Palace, or an all-day trip to Sandhamn. https://www.stromma.com/en-se/stockholm/excursions/day-trips/
We had a Stockholm card and took the ferry to Vaxholm. Even in the rain, it was a beautiful place. However, in mid-May, not much was open and it was a loooooong wait for the ferry to come back. Maybe transportation will be more frequent in June.
Yes, Vaxholm is a very seasonal town. I have a friend that lives in Vaxholm and she describes the town as rather sleepy in the winter but very lively in the summer.
On the advice of Swedish friends we took a ferry out to Fjäderholmarna, had a nice lunch and explored the area.
We took the boat all the way to Sandhamm. We had lunch there and wandered around for a bit before catching the boat back to Stockholm. It was a lovely, scenic day on the water. It did take a good part of a day.
I was recently in Stockholm and I did this tour with Stromma

It was very good and I would recommend it.
