three seniors travelling by train from Copenhagen to Stockholm first week of October and am looking for affordable boutique type hotel/ B&B.
also am having a concern about where in Stockholm is the most convenient area to stay with accessible transportation( Metro, bus) for moving between areas.
We stayed at the hotel Miss Clara in Stockholm several years ago. We had taken the train from Copenhagen and then took a taxi to the hotel. We walked everywhere, as I remember, but the hotel is on a major street so there would no doubt be buses and Metro.
The majority of our time was spent near the harbor and government buildings.
Larger hotel but very unique!
We stayed at Hotel Kungstradgarden last spring. Very cute hotel with a bar and good breakfast. It was close to ferries and buses. It was easy to walk to Gamla Stan and elsewhere. We highly recommend that hotel.
We were just in Stockholm a couple of weeks ago and stayed at the NOFO Hotel, which is about a 5 minute walk from the Medborgarplatsen T-bana station. It is only two stops to Gamla Stan. There are bus stops about a 2-3 minute walk from the hotel. Breakfast (a quite lovely spread) is included.
What is the most convenient area to stay depends a bit on what you're planning to do and what areas you want to visit.
But in general, as long as you're reasonably close to a metro stop you're in a good location.
Have a look at Hotel Esplanade which is close to both the castle and the water and is in the middle of things. Convenient for transport.
Clarion Wellington (dinner included), a 1930's hotel which is recommended in the RS guide, could be a good option. They have a lovely annexe close by (1909) where I once stayed.
A bit more information about Hotel Esplanade, which is right on the water. Very accessible to buses & trams very nearby - https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/sweden/stockholm-lodging-anyone-stayed-in-hotel-esplande
