Stockholm 4 days, train/metro tickets

What is best way to travel from Airport to Hotel Clarion Wellington?
If take Express Train, is it best to buy tickets ahead? If leaving Stockholm by plane, should we get the "return" ticket? We have three people, so looks like there is a quantity discount.
Around town, should we buy day passes ahead of any kind for train or museums? Is it worth it? We may bike a bit too.
What are the best boat trips to take in our limited time?
Thanks

Based on the location of your hotel, it won't be financially advantageous to take the express train and... then take a taxi? Or the tunnelbana? There is an approved taxi receipt for airport to hotel and vice versa, which your hotel should be able to tell you about or email to you. When I was there in 2015, the set cost was either 360 or 380 Krona, which is less than $40.00. You do need to get this information from your hotel as they provide the receipt.

I did take the express train initially, and then a taxi. I did purchase my ticket from the US, and all I needed was the credit card that I ordered it on. The conductor inserted my card into his machine and confirmed my ticket. No paper or ticket was involved.

My hotel reprimanded me for my initial approach via the express train and for not using their hotel receipt/coupon, and from then on (as I was in and out of Stockholm a couple more times) I used the receipt with the fixed cost that the hotel provided. My hotel was on Sodermalm also.

Thank you for the information. My hotel is on Storgatan in Ostermalm. Does your recommendation still apply? I guess with three people it could still be cheaper.

OH, Gosh. Sorry. I had the wrong Hotel Clarion or was my mind even more useless than that? LOL.

I was told by my hotel people that if you have to take a taxi from the train station then just take a taxi from the airport as it is more cost efficient. I found this to be true for my hotel. Plus, there was only one of me. Play with the numbers and see, but with three people it would seem the taxi would be even better with the coupon. If you have a problem getting information about the coupon from your hotel, if you decide to use it, let me know and I'll go through my trip residue to see if I can find the exact name of the coupon/receipt.

I didn't buy any tickets ahead of time, but I went just before midsummer celebrations when tourism is just starting to wind up. There was a tunnelbana and museum card which many people swore by so check to see if that is still in use. Sweden is beautiful. Have a wonderful trip.

Take the express train (or commuter train, or bus) to the central station, from there it is one stop on the metro to the hotel. And book Arlanda Express in advance, there are some nice group discounts.

Stockholm is not that bike friendly, but a 3 day or 7 day public transport pass is good value.

Badger,

Is it best to take the Express over Metro from Airport to Central Station? Cost wise?
How about walking from CS to Wellington instead of short metro ride?

Also when buying Express "return" means a round trip, two trips, correct?

Is it the 3 day SL card for the metro? This can be used on boats too correct? Should this be purchased ahead?
We are able to walk, are sites pretty close?

The metro is not an option from the airport.

How about walking from CS to Wellington instead of short metro ride?

Perfectly doable, it's about 1.8 km.

Also when buying Express "return" means a round trip, two trips,
correct?

Yes

Is it the 3 day SL card for the metro? This can be used on boats too
correct?

Some boats.

Should this be purchased ahead?

No, you can buy it when you arrive.

We are able to walk, are sites pretty close?

Which sites?

We will be in Stockholm shortly before Midsummer, family of 4, staying on Södermalm.

After extensive research we plan to buy the Arlanda Express tix ahead of time to get to Central station from the airport. Then I plan to buy the 7 day transportation pass to use throughout our stay once we arrive in central station. With suitcases & 2 teenagers I know for us this is the best option to get to & from the train station. I did the math & this came to the best option considering our length of stay, 5 nights, and the places we plan to visit.

I suggest you play around with costs (SL for TBana SJ for train to/from Airport) & consider how often you think you'll use the Tbana or the ferries to Djurgarden.

If you want to rent bikes, have you considered renting them on Djurgarden and riding around the island? That is our current plan.
Good luck & have a great trip!

Thank you for the replies. Does anyone have a good day plan for 3 1/2 days? Which archipelago cruise is best? Maybe going in evening to get most of day.
Is going to Sigtuna worth it? Husband would like a golf round if possible while I explore.

We are staying on Ostermalm

It looks like a reasonable plan, but it depends on what you are interested in.

Sigtuna is nice and worth a trip, but in my opinion Uppsala is a better choice as it offers more to see.

You could use your SL card and 7 day pass to get all the way to your hotel from the airport. It's a bit convoluted, 1-2 transfers but we did it with bags. Are you arriving on an overnight flight? If not and you have some energy, you could line up the SL card and passes at Arlanda and skip the express train. You can also reverse the trip to Arlanda and use the SL passes again, up to you. I wouldn't take a taxi from the airport, though.

The SL boats are not particularly convenient for tourists, I mean as a time saver.

We were there for 5 days and a Stockholm Pass made sense for us. You might price it out. Your list looks good. I did enjoy the Nordic Museum - I thought it was really well-done and near the Vasa. I also used the SL app on my phone for a final ticket purchase. I didn’t opt for a transportation pass, though - just bought a certain number of rides on our SL card when we arrived at the airport.

Also - never used a kroner of cash. All credit card.
