Southern Sweden inspiration

I have an 11 night holiday planned for Early August for four of us including my 10 and near 8 year old. So far flights and car hire are booked from Copenhagen and one holiday rental on the Falsterbo peninsula at Höllviken. I have my eye on another holiday rental around the Karlskrona archipelago.
Any tips of nice places to visit. I have a guide book but prefer small quaint villages and want to avoid crowded beaches if possible. We like a slow pace of travel , places with character, natural beauty, castles/palaces. Would prefer not to travel more than about 45 mins by car for trips. Thanks

In Skåne, Ystad, Lund and Helsingborg are nice towns to visit. But are better to visit by public transport. In the countryside, Eastern Skåne (Österlen) is a beutiful area. Ale stenar and the nearby fishing village Kåseberga might be of interest. And for some good quality fika, the café Olof Viktors is a must. The island Ven in Öresund is also nice, but is a bit more than 45 min away from Höllviken.

Thanks Badger. Yes Ystad and Lund are in my radar but fishing villages like you mention are exactly what I’m looking for:)

Just be aware that Kåseberga is not a quiet and calm place in the summer, but rather a pretty crowded place. Rural Skåne is a popular tourist destination and early august is peak tourist season, so it will be hard to avoid crowded areas. Other areas I can recommend are the peninsulas in northwestern Skåne.

Thanks for the intel. If we head slightly inland and rent a cottage by 'a lake' is that likely to be quieter? I'm not after complete solitude but don't want to end up somewhere where we can't relax. By north west Skane do you mean the area around Bastad? I'm really heading a bit blind into this trip! My only experience of Sweden was the Gothenburg archipelago 20 years ago and I was completely charmed by it. I guess I'm looking for something similar if possible whilst being tied to the South because of our Copenhagen flights. As I mentioned I'm eyeing up a holiday rental about 20 mins west of Karlskrona that is right by the water with a little boat to explore the Islands. I'm hoping this will fit the bill.

Yes, by north west Skåne I meant the Båstad-Helsingborg area. Not sure exactly where 20 mins west of Karlskrona is, somewhere close to Ronneby? But it will be quieter I think. And a boat to explore the archipelago sounds nice! You could also consider Småland and one of the many lakes there, I would suggest one of the larger lakes. Småland and Blekinge also has the advantage of being more forested areas so you can explore the nature (and look for berries and mushrooms, august is blueberry season). Most of southern Skåne is cultivated land so off limits in the summer.
