Rent a rollator in Sweden?

Hi. I'll be traveling to Sweden next month, flying into Landvetter airport outside of Göteborg. I'll rent a car there and travel to Eksjö where my brother is (he had a stroke). Where can I rent a rollator with a seat? I can only walk a few steps on my own and not very far without sitting down.
Thanks for your help! Peace and all good to you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your brother.
If you are on Facebook, join a My Ancestors are from Sweden group or better, Småland group. They are helpful in many ways. I know at least one PCA in that group that can likely answer that question. It sounds as if you will need a rollator at your point of arrival rather than at Eksjö. Correct? I was impressed how many people were out and about in Eksjö on some sort of walker or rollator going about their daily business, so surely one could be rented there. If you have no luck, IM me and I'll get in touch with someone in Jönköping who might be able to answer this.

PS, Have you thought about bringing your own rollator with you? That might be easiest.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I really do want to rent the rollator at Landvetter if possible. I'm not even sure that the wheelchair service there will be willing to bring me to the car rental place so that might be a problem also. I'd love to bring my own rollator with a seat with me but I'm afraid it'll get destroyed if put in checked baggage. It does fold but I don't know how to secure it to keep it safe. Do you have any experience with this?

Are you sure you have to check your rollator? Did you check with your airline? I bet there is somewhere on the plane they would store it. No, I have no specific experience or knowledge of flying with a rollator. At worst they'd gate check it? What did the airline say they would do? This would be your best and first option. Does your brother have any PCAs that might be able to answer this question as well? Then, if that fails, I'll contact my PCA friend.

Thanks, Wray. Those are good suggestions. I'll check with the airline to see if they'll let me bring the rollator with me on the plane or gate check it. One of the challenges in the airport would be getting it to the gate as I'll need to use the wheelchair service to get myself there. Even with the rollator I'm not able to walk the long distances.

I learned a new Swedish word ("rullator")

Definitely check with your airline / airport.

According to the Landvetter website, when you depart from Landvetter, you bring the rullator to check in where it will get a luggage tag, but then you can use it up to the departure gate. At the departure gate it will be stowed. I know this doesn't help for arrival.

Thanks for pointing me to Landvetter Airport, Laura. I'll need a wheelchair when I get off the plane to bring me to the baggage area to pick up my bags as I won't be able to walk that far, even using the rollator. The same will be true in the airports in the USA (Memphis and Atlanta). I can't think of a way that I can be in a wheelchair and manage to get the rollator to the plane so I'll probably have to check it if I can't rent one there. I can't figure out how to pack it so that it will be safe in with checked baggage. Can you tell I'm really nervous about this trip?

Fpxcy..., Did the airline say they won't bring the rollator to the plane as you are wheeled to the plane? I can't imagine they won't fold up the rollator to bring it, and then have it gate checked. Tip the person enough and I would think they would do more for you. Another alternative is to pay to have someone fly with you so you have no worries at either end. Do you have anyone that might go with you? Or, instead of renting a car, did you think of having a driver waiting for you to drive you to Eksjo? I will speak to my PCA friend in Jonkoping to see if she has any recommendations.

My mom now travels with a rollator and has had no problem with damage to it on the flight. She always gets a wheelchair for the airport and, again, no problem with the wheelchair driver also bringing her carryon and rollator to the gate. Those folks are amazing! They usually gatecheck the rollator so she can use it to move down the jetway and then use her cane to reach her seat.

Best wishes to you and your brother in this difficult situation.

My thanks to Wray and Kathleen. It helps me to know that it's possible to use the wheelchair service at the airport and also bring my rollator to the gate.
You had mentioned earlier, Wray, that you had seen people in Eksjö using rollators. That also reassures me as I've been afraid that the streets would be cobblestones and wasn't sure if a rollator would work on them. My travel is seeming more possible now, even with my handicaps.
