Hi,
I have to take a daily medication that requires constant refrigeration. Does anyone have experience keeping medicine refrigerated while on this tour? Thank you, Virginia

When you fill out your pre-trip information form, state that you require a refrigerator in your room, as a medical accommodation, and they will make it happen. For moving from place to place, bring an insulated bag and re-freezable ice packs that you can either freeze yourself (if your refrigerator has a freezer compartment) or you can ask the hotel to freeze them for you overnight for pick up in the morning. Put your ice packs in a baggie with your name, telephone number, and room number, and coordinate with the front desk. I've done this on several RS tours as well as independent travel, and it works well. Have fun!
PS - the tour busses generally have a small ice chest, but do not plan on using it for your meds. It's against their guidelines, and if you're like me, you also don't want to worry about someone taking your med out and forgetting to put it back in.
While you are traveling from place to place, you can also try this FRIO Medication Cooler Wallet: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00022628K?th=1 I use it and it works very well while traveling, then I store it in my room in a fridge. It's gotten a lot of good recommendations here on the forum, and I like it.

Dear 'KC the great P-NW',
Thank you so much for your information!! I will do exactly as you say. This will be our 5th Rick Steves' tour, and the guides have been extremely good about food desires like vegetarian, vegan, etc, so I was hoping that Rick Steves folks would make this happen. Also, I'll take your idea about bringing an insulated bag and re-freezable ice packs. This is the first time I have traveled with medication that required refrigeration, so I'm really the newbie here. I appreciate also your thought about not using the ice chest on the tour busses.
This will help to make our trip great!
I've wanted to take this tour for years -- we are so excited!! We're going in May.
Thanks again, Virginia
Hi Mardee,
Thanks for your idea!
It seems to be tailored for insulin. I am traveling with an Epipen and needles, so this may not fit my needs, but it looks like a very good idea.
Appreciate it! Virginia
Dear CL,
Wow!! Great!! I thought that this topic should have been discussed previously on this forum, but had not located it.
Thank you so much for this! I'm certain I will get some great ideas from it.
Thanks again,
Virginia

I believe it works for other medications besides insulin, as I do not use it for insulin. I know that some people use it for an EpiPen, but there are other brands as well.
virginiahyde0 you're welcome. You might also consult your medical provider to see if there is a non-refrigerated option that would work for traveling (it's worth a shot, as they say).
