My husband, adult son, and I plan to be in Gothenburg in mid August to learn more about our family who lived there. Any recommendations for places to stay? Also, my grandmother was from Tjorn. Is there public transportation to the island and how far is it from Gothenburg?
I, my partner, and 3 girls (ages 24, 20, 16) may also be spending some time in and around Gothernburg in August, so am interested in any information anyone can offer on this subject.
Unfortunately, I haven't visited either Göteborg or Tjörn. However, I speak Swedish so I checked on the transit options.
There are various choices, but it looks like the bus called the "Tjörn Express" which travels from the Nils Ericson bus terminal in Göteborg to various locations on Tjörn is probably the best option.
You can use the Västtrafik website to check the regional transit schedules

Alternatively, this site also has the route.

We spent numerous days in May 2015 in Gothenburg. We stayed at the Raddison Blu Scandinavia hotel across the square from the train station. Really lovely and so very central....excellent breakfast included. There are numerous hotels near this square to choose from. Your best choice is to rent a car and drive to explore the area near the archipelagos. Driving is easy and fun!! Good Luck to You.
