Problem getting direct train from Stockholm to Copenhagen in August?

On SJ.SE, they are listing all the direct trains from Stockholm to Copenhagen as sold-out. I'm sure that's not really the case. I've read in the forums that there are border crossing issues between Sweden and Denmark and that might be why they are not available? Does anyone have any more info on that? I'd like to know if the direct trains eventually will become available, or if I should book one of the others or consider flying? Thanks for your advice.

They have not been for sale while Sweden tries to implement a new security procedure at Copenhagen train station. I don't expect it to be resolved much before the August 8 end of the current schedule. If their plan is still not ready to go on that date, then might just open up train bookings for another month but not beyond.

Interesting, thanks! I was trying to book for Aug 25, and the directs were listed as "sold-out". Since you mention Aug 8, I looked for trains for Aug 4, and all the directs are available for booking on that date. So would you suggest that we wait until Aug 8 to reserve, when you expect the directs to be available, at least up thru the end of Aug? Could you recommend a source of information to keep up with this topic? I'm not seeing any mention of it on sj.se. Thanks!

I was curious (because I'm making the same trip on August 22nd, although I long ago decided against a direct train so I can stop off in Malmo for a few hours), so I did the search on sj.se, and it's now showing tickets available on the direct trains leaving at 10:21 and 12:21 on the 25th, although all the others are still showing up as sold out.

Stewart - Check The Man in Seat Sixty-One(www.seat61.com) about booking tickets for SJ.SE. I had issues booking the train from Copenhagen to Stockholm on SJ.SE and had to go to a different web site. I hope this helps.

We recently traveled the opposite way. I was staying near the central train station in Copenhagen and was surprised because I had to go to the Copenhagen airport and then change to another train to Sweden.

When we went to the platform at the airport train station there was a Swedish security check before we could go onto the platform. It was just a quick passport check. I learned later that this routine had been in place about a year because of the refugee situation.

Also strange, we wanted to go to Kalmar, Sweden and it was not included on the list of stops. We asked the conductor and he said to be on the first 4 cars. Weird.

So, you might check for a train to the Copenhagen airport and then catch the train to the city.

The security check at the platform was the only one we encountered after landing in Copenhagen. We also traveled to Norway. No passport check there either.

Thank you all for the information! I will check it out as I am going from Copenhagen to Stockholm on August 30th.

Prior to August 30th we purchased tickets to Stockholm at the Central train station in Copenhagen from the agent. Train 538 leaving at 12:16 from the station at the airport. We took a train from Central station at 10:40 since there were issues with previous trains going to the airport for family members and we were unsure of the layout.

Our 20 minute ride to airport took 20 minutes with one 4 minute delay. There are 2 tracks with one dedicated for trains going to Sweden and the other back to Central Station. The electronic sign lists the time leaving and the city - no train #. Ours was not listed. Only a train leaving at 12:10 and another at 12:26 to cities within Sweden. We thought we could ask security or a conductor below on the platform. Once down the ramp #2, we went through security, several guys with green vests in a roped off areas who look at your passport and let you through. They had no answers for us, suggested we take any train to Malmö and transfer to our train there.

We didn't realize Malmö has 3 stops and we needed to go to Malmö C. So after getting off at the 1st stop and then getting on another train, we got off at Malmö C. It seems all trains go through Malmö. Once there, we checked with office on the main level, and sure enough our #538 left Malmö C at 1:13. No need for an exclamation, nor did we care at that point! Enjoyable and comfortable ride through Swedish countryside to Stockholm.
