We're going on the RS Best of Scandinavia tour in August. We'll have a full day before and until 4pm the day the tour starts.
In searching day trips I have found some tours to ancient Viking sites and towns which sound appealing.
Also interested in Drottningholm Palace which is not visited on the RS tour and Royal Palace and changing of the guard which I think is only visited on the outside on the tour.
I know... apples and oranges.
Looking for those who have spent time at any of these sights in Stockholm to share experience or recommendation. Thanks.
Do not miss Drottingham Palace and go there by boat, sailing on Lake Malaren. It is the home of the Royal family and has extensive gardens. Choose it over the Royal Palace, no comparison. I’m surprised the RS tour doesn’t include Drottingham Palace.
If you are interested in Viking history you should go to Uppsala and visit Gamla Uppsala, a very important site during the Viking age. It is also a good area to see rune stones.
