Passport/Customs Control App aka MPC.

Please can people share their experience of the Passport/Customs Control App aka MPC.

I signed up this morning, but I’m unclear about how communication with passport control works. The app says to contact them four hours or less before arrival at the airport of entry, or upon arrival, in this case returning to Newark international from Sweden.

Have people been successful in contacting them from the plane and receiving a response (if they have WiFi of course)

I’m surprised not to have been asked for my travel details, flight details, etc.

Any insights will be most gratefully received.

Thank you.

I'm not sure why this is posted under Sweden. MPC is used when returning to the US.

After the plane lands, while taxiing to the jetway, I connect to the internet via my carrier. If that doesn't work, I wait until I get inside the terminal and use the airport WiFi.

You can complete your form before you depart and save it and then submit it after you arrive.

Sign up for the app at home

When your plane arrives, connect to the internet and upload your details to the app: take your photo, fill in the form and submit

Go to the appropriate agent, and they'll let you in.

Thanks for the very helpful, practical advice. I will do as advised where possible. Apparently the improved entry method (related to the Football World Cup) is not available at Newark International, to which I will be returning.

Thanks so very much for all your input.

I've used the App at the Newark airport and was through in no time. The first time I went through the Diplomat/Global Entry line but that was several years ago so they may have dedicted lane. Just follow the directions that Lane and ramblin' on gave you. Once the QR code didn't appear for me but I restarted the app and it came up right away.

Be aware that the MPC lane may or may not be open. The last time I arrived in EWR before I had Global Entry, there was no lane open for MPC. Just ask the person who's directing people. It certainly doesn't hurt to have it downloaded and ready in any event.

I would think that Newark is a bit more familiar with MPC and has things set up. but in the past, I have had to ask where the line for MPC was (At ATL and MSP) and half the time all I got was a blank look, including once while the agent was standing in front of a poster advertising MPC. But other than once when there was no separate line, it worked well, quick, easier than Global entry, and for whatever reason, people just do not seem to use it, so a small line. I also once had issues with the app submitting the information, was already in line, they passed me through anyway.

As for information you submit, you provide enough information to be matched with a flight manifest, so they really do not need much.
