I have found that we can travel between the two by train in about 5 1/2 hours. We have several days to spare (mid-March) and wondering if there are any great places to stop (maybe overnight?) if we go a little out of our way during that time.
I hope Badger sees this and responds.
Uppsala is not on the direct train route as far as I know, but it's not too far north of Stockholm and is a very nice city.
I will also say that I've spent over a week in Oslo and over two weeks in Stockholm (albeit at a much warmer time of year) without running out of things to do.
Acraven - thanks! I think we may do a DIY version of Norway in a nutshell our first week and then split the rest of our time in Oslo in Stockholm and take the high-speed train between the two
Yes! There is such a great place! Between the capital and the Norwegian border, in the stand-alone province of Närke lies the provincial capital of Örebro, with the most grand and imposing castle exterior in Scandinavia, right in the city center, surrounded by water and adjacent to a prize-winning city park with gardens, an open air museum, a large newly built playground and a delicious bakery, Jeremiabageriet. Örebro has some of the friendliest and most content people in the country, and the vibe is reminiscent of both Malmö and Gothenburg.
In haste! (Hoping to arrive in Italy during the next 24 hours)
