Hello fellow travelers! We have an 18 day trip planned that is focused primarily on Norway (Bergen, Alesund, trondheim and lofoten). We have included 2 days in Copenhagen and 2 days in Oslo. I would like to see Stockholm as well and am trying to figure out how to fit it in with maybe adding an extra day. Is Oslo worth 2 days compared to Stockholm ? Since we are spending so much time already in Norway could we omit Oslo visit and substitute Stockholm? Which is the more interesting city?
Thanks for your help!
Oslo is a lovely city in many ways, but if there is a choice, Stockholm wins in my opinion. And I'm not just saying that because I'm Swedish. If you can make a stop in Stockholm, you will not regret it.
What does the itinerary look like so far?
I'm not Swedish and I agree with Badger. I'd prioritize Stockholm if I had to choose. It's not at all a close call. But two days is very short for Stockholm, a large city spread over many islands and with a lot of sights.
Thanks for your input. Presently we have 2 days in Oslo, 2 days in bestebakken, 1 day in bergen, 2 days in Oye, 2 days in alesund, 2 days in trondheim 3 days in lofoten and 2 days in Copenhagen
Adding two days in Stockholm will certainly be worth it. Or make it three days in Stockholm one day in Oslo, unless you can't extend the trip. My suggestion would be to start in Stockholm, and then take the overnight train to Narvik to get to Lofoten.
Hi Hillary, Yes, agreed skip Oslo & spend the time in Stockholm. What month are you traveling? Hopefully you can book a multi-leg airplane ticket, into Stockholm let's say, out of Copenhagen... OR skip Copenhagen entirely, you're moving around a lot, 6 places in 18 days, does that include arrival and departure days? Maybe send us your suggested itinerary?
Thanks all. We settled our itinerary to just so do Norway in 16 days. Hopefully we’ll get back in the future to visit Sweden and Denmark. Thanks for all the help!
Often that's the best approach. I've recently been to northern Europe twice (including Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania), for a total of over 5 months, and I haven't made it to Denmark yet.
