Motorhome tour: Stockholm / Oslo

We've rented a motorhome in Stockholm for one full week in October. We intend to spend the first two nights camped in Stockholm and then would like to head to Norway. We are thinking of driving to Lillehammer, then down to Oslo, then back to Stockholm in the remaining five days. (I realize that is just a small taste of things, but that is what we have.) We are open to staying in regular campgrounds, but are excited to try 'free camping' by just parking where legal in the most picturesque places we happen upon. Do you have any suggestions for pretty or interesting places to stop along the way?

If you're going to Lillehammer, the Maihaugen folk museum is a must-see in my opinion. And just a little further north is the Ringebu stave church.

A motor home in Oslo sounds like a lot to me. Have you considered doing Lillehammer and going a bit north instead of south to Oslo? That way you could hit Innerdalen/Andalsnes/Trollstigen Road, some magnificently beautiful areas. Oslo is a perfectly nice city but I think rugged nature is where Norway really shines.

Thank you Sara - I'll note the folk museum, and I'll look into going north. Those are great ideas.

Hopefully we find somewhere picturesque to stay over to sleep between Stockholm and Lillehammer, too. I'm sure we'll see something. :)
