Malmo Day Trip From Copenhagen

Hi everyone,

I am planning a trip to Copenhagen and considering a day trip to Malmo.

I’ll have a rental and wish to check out the Øresund Bridge.

Any recommendations on what to do in Malmo or the surrounding area ?

Thanks and have a great day,

Nate

Turn the car around and drive back to Copenhagen. Malmo is not very interesting. If you want to see something in Sweden you could go to Lund which is 20km north-west of Malmo and a pretty small city with a very nice cathedral and open air museum.

Malmö isn't really the most interesting town in Sweden. But you can find some good views of the bridge from the city. More interesting towns in that part of Sweden are Lund, Ystad and Helsinborg. Although none of them are very practical to visit with a car, but you can usually find somewhere to park it in the outskirts.

To get to Malmö the train is the better option, unless you really want to drive across the bridge. Just note that the bridge toll means it is not a cheap trip.

When are you doing this trip? There are also things to see on the countryside.

Hi Aussienomad,

Thanks for the recommendation.

I much prefer a smaller town vibe as you get more of a sense of the traditional vide of the country.

Have a great day

I second the recommendation of Lund. I took the train there from Copenhagen. It's a cute town to wander around. The cathedral is nice, though it was under scaffolding when I was there.

Lund is very much charming, but if you are looking for "the traditional vibe of Sweden", it is probably not the best place to visit. As a university town (2nd oldest university in present day Sweden) it has very much an international vibe, although there are not as many exchange students in the summer.

For a summer trip you can also consider Simrishamn. Although you would have to change train in Malmö. The small island Ven in Öresund is also well worth a visit. And outside Ystad, Ale stenar is an interesting historical site.

We had a lovely overnight stay in Ystad . Drove from Copenhagen so we could see the bridge, overnighter in Ystad to view the Wallendar detective sights. Enjoyed the town and the Wallendar museum. We voted for the original Wallendar and had coffee with the ticketseller. Next day went to Ales S??? the stone circle and drove back to Copenhagen. Really enjoyed it.
