Late planning trip to Sweden and Copenhagen area (need input)

I may be getting a job offer months earlier than expected so I am going to Scandinavia on the 22nd of July. I bought my round trip ticket, have a hotel reservation for the first 7 nights in Stockholm and a taxi to that hotel.

That's it.

I've got 18 nights total coming back on August 9th/10th.

I want to boat ferry to Helsinki and Tallinn. Probably see a bit of southern Sweden on the way to Copenhagen and the general area.

What do I need to reserve right away whether it's locations, ferries or particular attractions?

Thanks for the assist. I get I am late on the planning and I'm fine being flexible and paying more. When I start work I won't be able to take this much time off so it's a trade off.

Congrats on the job offer, welcome to the forum. Without knowing your personal preferences it's going to be hard to give specific advice, but since it's summer peak season I'd say anything that is bookable ahead should be if you can. Are you flying in/out of Stockholm? If so, I suggest you return there the day before your flight home to minimize travel drama.

Here are this forum host's suggestions for Sweden, Finland, Estonia, and Denmark.

That is a return ticket to Stockholm, meaning you have to return to Stockholm in the end to fly home? If you're staying in Norrmalm my first suggestion is that you cancel the taxi and buy a train ticket from the airport instead, it will save you both time and money.

What are you interested in? What do you want to see and do? It will be easier to give advice if you tell us a bit more about yourself. If you have 18 nights in total and planning to spend 7 nights in Stockholm, that leaves 11 nights from Helsinki, Tallinn and Copenhagen. You might want to rethink that a bit. It's certainly possible, but with this plan 7 nights in Stockholm seems like a bit too much.

The ferry tickets may increase in price as time goes on, and cabins could sell out on overnight ferries.

Thanks.

I fly out of Copenhagen. The taxi to my hotel in Stockholm is complimentary.

I like to savor my trip so I tend to be the reverse of rushing through areas.

Right now I picked 7 nights in Stockholm to

  • see the popular attractions like the Vasa, Old Town, Skansen, Changing of the Guard, Royal Armory, etc.
    • day trip to Uppsala
    • day trip to Sigtuna
    • day trip to Drottingholm Palace
    • boat tour - archipelagos

In between are 7 nights for the following and I am open to hearing what is best and suggested time there

  • boat ferry to Tallinn (very interested)
  • boat ferry to Helsinki (somewhat interested)
  • Aero (somewhat interested)

Train from Stockholm to Copenhagen best route back after the boat ferries? Spend extra night in Stockholm?

Last 4 nights in Copenhagen (add another night or two?)

  • Tivoli Garden, National Museum, Rosenburg Castle/Treasury, Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Museum of Danish Resistance,

Again, I get this is last minute. There's a good chance I will have a job offer by August and it's a lot easier to tell them I am already in Europe and need to start later than to ask to begin 2-3 months after job acceptance.

P.S. I've already been to Norway hence why it's not included.

Have you bought some kind of package holiday? You might consider asking them if they can change the taxi from the airport to a train ticket.

You could also go direct to Uppsala from the airport and spend a few nights there to see Uppsala and do a day trip to Sigtuna (maybe combine it with Skokloster).

I understand the desire to spend a lot of time in Stockholm, but that doesn't leave you a lot of time for the other places you want to see. My suggestion would be to skip Helsinki and Ærø, add at least one night to Copenhagen and spend at least one in Tallinn. Add any additional nights to somewhere between Stockholm and Copenhagen, two nights in Visby and one night in Kalmar is a good option, but it can be hard to find somewhere to stay in Visby which such short notice.
