Itinerary starting in Copenhagen to Sweden & Norway (2 weeks)

Hi,
I am traveling with my husband and our 2 teen boys from SF to Copenhagen in August. We are hoping to see some of Denmark, Sweden and if possible Norway. We would like to end the trip with 5+ days renting a house on a lake that is warm enough to swim in August. We are open to train, renting a car, flying if necessary and open to any itinerary as long as we end up relaxing for 5+ days at the end. We like a mix of city and history with nature. Thank you very much. Best, Suzanne

Yes, we are flying SFO to Copenhagen and 2 weeks later back from Copenhagen to SFO. Thank you.

If you have two weeks in total and want to spend one week in a house on a lake, I don't think you have time to see Norway as well. Unless you like really fast paced travel. So I would suggest 3-4 days in Copenhagen, 3-4 days in Stockholm, a week at a lake, and then return to Copenhagen the day before your flight. Assuming you've booked SAS' direct flights it leaves rather late in the day, but better safe than sorry is at least my travel style.

There are around 100 000 lakes in Sweden so there are plenty to choose from. Do you prefer a large lake or a small lake? In the middle of nowhere or closer to a city?

Hi,
Thank you very much. We would like a lake that is shallow enough so that it is not too cold to swim in August. We would love a small town and a lake where you can hike and fish. Thanks again.
Best, Suzanne

Fishing complicates things a bit. You need a permit to fish in fresh water in Sweden, except in the five largest lakes (Vänern, Vättern, Mälarn, Hjälmaren and Storsjön). And they might be easier to get in some areas and harder in other. That is not my area of expertise so i don't know which lakes are the best.

And I don't know how easy it is to find a house, but a good start is to look at https://www.stugnet.se for houses that look nice. There you'll find all kinds of places, from simple cottages without electricity and running water, to places with modern amenities. I'd suggest you start looking at Småland, Västergötland or Halland. But Dalarna is also not a bad option.
