My niece will be heading to Kalmar on Friday and needs to take the train from the airport in Copenhagen. Our question is, does the high speed train travel to Kalmar or will she need to transfer in Malmo?

have a look at www.sj.se who sell the tickets. Some connections are direct, some are not.

No and no. For high speed trains, a transfer in Alvesta is needed. But there are direct Öresundståg.

Badger is right, there are no direct high speed trains (run by SJ), only the regional Øresundstog are direct https://www.oresundstag.se/en/
It looks like they take about the same time.
