Help with trip from Molmo to Stockholm.

Hello there, We are planning drive from Copenhagen to Stockholm in June and were wondering if we should stay the night @ Molmo or Kalmar or any other suggestion for the night stay?
We plan to take a taxi from Copenhagen to Malmo in the morning, and then rent the car. Also, any suggestions for scenic places on the route?
Thanks much.

It is very easy to take the train from Copenhagen to Malmo. And Malmo is quite interesting with some modern architecture so some time there could be quite enjoyable.

Note that taking a taxi from Copenhagen to Malmö is a costly affair due to the road toll on the Øresund Bridge. You are better off taking the train.

I agree that there is absolutely no reason to take a taxi to Malmø, just take the train.
How many days do your have to make this trip?
And do you plan on using the rental car for more than just the trip to Stockholm?

Great, thanks! Will definitely take the early morning train there. We have almost two whole days and one night for this trip.

Well the direct route is via central Sweden Through Jönkjöping. I only know that route up until there and I dont think the towns you pass are that interesting.
You could also take the eastern route via Kristianstad, Karlskrona and Kalmar, which are more interesting places.
However with only two days, you could just take the train. It’s a very long drive.

If you really want to drive, I would recommend the route via Gotland.

We were thinking of doing Malmo, Lund and Ystad the first day. Night at Ystad? next day, stop by Kaseberge, kivik and maybe Kalmar if there is time and reach Stockhlom by night.
Is this too ambitious? We don't mind driving and stoping by places. Is the speed limit very less?
Thanks for all the suggestions.

The drive from Ystad to Stockholm is approx. 8 hours and that's non stop. If it was me I would aim at spending the night roughly half way on the route to Stockholm and that is around Kalmar.
However it seems that the places you really want to stop are all in Skåne (except Kalmar). In that case why dont you just rent the car for one day in Malmø, tour around Skåne and return the car the same day and then take the fast, comfortable and cheap high speed train to Stockholm?

If you return the car in Malmö, you can take the train to Kalmar (travel time 3 hours).
From Kalmar you can take the train to Stockholm with just 1 change in Alvesta.

I don't see the appeal in being trapped in a car for such a long drive when the train is both more comfortable and faster, and can be very cheap if you book ahead.

You do not want a car in Lund. I sounds a lot like you should rent a car for a day to see Skåne and then take the train to Stockholm.

The speed limit varies, usually 110 on motorways, 90-100 on larger roads, 70-80 on smaller roads and 50 in towns and cities.

Thanks for all the suggestions! We'll definitely not be driving to Stockhlom now. I'll look into exploring Skåne and then heading to Stockhlom. Or should we go directly to Kalmar and explore that area?

Short answer: It depends on what you want to see. You can easily spend a day or two in both areas.

Was thinking of renting car in Malmo, visit Lund and head to Abbekås, enjoy the beach. See the area around Ystad. And head back next day back to malmo and train back to Stockholm. Or to towards Bastad explore that area and stay there the night and next day train from.malmo to Stockholm.

Not a bad idea, but my suggestion would be to rent the car in Lund. Either take the train from Malmö to Lund or ditch Malmö altogether (to be honest, it is not that interesting) and head direct to Lund. And when in the Ystad area, don't miss Ale stenar.

Or to towards Bastad explore that area and stay there the night and next day train from.malmo to Stockholm.

Then maybe a train from Copenhagen to Båstad is a better idea.

Any suggestions for Bastad? What to see and do around there?
Thanks so much for your help. It makes it more clear and is helpful to decide what is a better option! I couldn't have figured out this on my own 😀

I'm not too familiar with that area, but the Bjäre and Kullen peninsulas are both nice areas know for natural beauty. There are also plenty of nice beaches in the area.
