Help!!! Cities to tour in Sweden, near Oslo.....

Hello everyone!!!!

I will be in Oslo the 1st of February and was wondering if there are any good cities to visit in Sweden, near there (don't want to have to train 6hrs to Stockholm and spend the night too).

Thanks!!!!
Jen :-)

It's hard to give good advice without knowing what you are looking for.
Do you want to visit cities or smaller towns, nature? And is it just for a day trip?

Secondly I wonder why you want to go to Sweden from Oslo? Is it just to tick af box saying you have visited Sweden? Chances are you will hardly notice that you are in a different country. I would focus more places and sights that you find interesting around Oslo, regardless of they are in Sweden or Norway.

Thanks for your reply!!! :-) I did just want to run over to Sweden for the day so I could tick it off my list of countries I've seen (later plan on going back to spend at least a week to explore it more). So far as what I enjoy....I love architecture, but I also love seeing interesting natural formations/views that I wouldn't normally be exposed to in the states. Anything beautiful :-)

Alright, If you really want to venture into Sweden, then the Bohuslen coast to the south of Oslo has some interesting sites.
Near Tanumshede you can find a number of Bronze Age rock carvings, that are UNESCO World Heritage listed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Carvings_in_Tanum
The small town of Fjällbacka is a popular summer retreat in the Bohuslen Skerrigard archipelago. It's also the setting of Swedish crime writer Camilla Läckbergs novels (you would be surprised of the number of (fictional) murders there are in a town of 800 people). I haven't been there, but it looks like a quaint little town with colorful wooden houses, though I am not sure how much there is to see and do in February.
Just above the town of Halden on the Norwegian side of the border is the impressive Frederiksten Fortress https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fredriksten. The Swedish warrior king Charles the 12th died here during siege in 1718 during the Great Northern War. It is a testament to the many wars between Denmark and Sweden (Norway was under Danish rule at the time).
I think all of these places are best visited by car, since public transport might not be very frequent, especially if you want to visit many smaller sights during one day.

Just my personal opinion, but in February I wouldn't go looking for outdoor scenic sites in Sweden, I would stick to larger towns or cities. That does limit your options for a day trip or an overnight without too much travel time. You could go to Gothenburg, it's 3-1/2 hours by bus, but worth the trip mostly if you planned to spend the night. It'll be cold and get dark quite early so not a lot of time for outdoor sightseeing, but there are good museums to visit. I was there in summer and loved it, but not sure about winter.
