Several of us plan to fly into Gothenburg in early August, travel to the Koster islands for a family event, then toward Stockholm, with an overnight at Granna. It looks like the simplest way to get from Gothenburg to the Koster islands is by car, parking in Stromstad while on the islands. From the Koster islands we plan to drive to Stockholm and drop the car once we reach the city. We're looking for advice on the transportation part--is the car the simplest solution, and what do we need to keep in mind if we rent a car?

No, the easiest way is to take the train to Strömstad and then the ferry to Koster. But, if your plan is just to go to Koster, flying to Oslo seems like a better idea than flying to Gothenburg.

Or, you can take the train. In the summer there are direct high speed trains between Strömstad and Stockholm. But it's also possible to make a stop in Gränna. It depends on what you want to see and do.

simplest solution
Probably not.
