Gothenburg in December

We will be in Gothenburg Dec 9-15. We are hoping to be able to go cross country skiing or other outdoor winter activities in day trips from the city. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also any other day trip ideas? Is it doable to drive to Oslo or Copenhagen for a day in December weather?

Gothenburg has a mild maritime climate so in mid december you can expect single digit temperatures, probably above zero, and rain or sleet. You might have to travel a bit to go cross country skiiing.

Neither Oslo nor Copenhagen are on what I would call "day trip distance" from Gothenburg.

I concur with Badger. Gothenburg is not a ski destination. However, the seafood is great.

So where would you suggest to go as a day trip from Gothenburg? Castles? Fun small town? Interesting walking tour in a days drive from Gothenburg? Thanks for the input!!

Have you tried googling "Gothenberg Tourism" ?

We have gotten great information from that site on things to do in Gothenburg. We would also like to explorer more of the countryside. We see lots of other places to go but with limited time we were hopping for specific suggestions on an exciting destination outside the city. Someplace to get another "side" of Sweden.

Thank you for an insights you may have!

If I were to do a day trip from Gothenburg I would not drive, I would use public transport. Much easier and cheaper. And driving in Gothenburg is hardly a relaxing experience. But there are plenty of places to see, depending on what you are interested in. For castles/fortresses, Varberg is a good town to visit. But don't miss Skansen kronan and Skansen lejonet in Gothenburg as well.

And I agree with Barkinpark, the seafood in the area is great. And December is a good month for shellfish.
