Hello. We are 5 traveling together. Looking for recommendations for modest priced hotels in Gothenburg . Good location for touring around. Also, plan to go south and spend one night in Varberg. Recommendations.

Scandic is a good hotel chain for mid range hotels in Sweden, they have several hotels in Gothenburg. Clarion and Strawberry are other options.
In Varberg there is a Clarion close to the railway station, but I can also recommend Stadshotellet at the main square. And if you want something different, you can also stay in the fortress. https://fastningens.se/en/fastningens-rum-vid-havet-english/

Have a look at Hotel Royal, Hotel Pigalle and Hotel Vanilla. Elite Plaza and Hotel Poseidon are a tad more expensive. Best Western Center Hotel is usually cheap. They are all located in the city center in buildings that are at least 100 years old.
