My wife and I are signed up for the RS Best of Scandinavia 14 day tour (July 30-Aug 12). It begins in Stockholm. We plan to arrive in Sweden about 4 days early and do some touring on our own before. The tentative plan is to fly into Copenhagen and train into Sweden. Once done in the southern part, we'll take the train to Stockholm and pick up the tour. We'd like to explore the area around Vaxjo, see the House of Emigrants, Karlskrona and Kalmar. This is the area I think called Småland, which is where my wife's family came from before emigrating to the America. We'd like to stay in a country B and B or a Farm stay. Something similar to the Agriturismos in Italy. Any suggestions? And any suggestions for towns or areas to visit in that area. We are mostly looking for nice quiet country places before we begin the tour. We initially thought we'd fly into Stockholm, but the more we looked at the map, the more it made sense to fly into Copenhagen. Make sense? Any thoughts on that? Thanks for your help.

You'll find plenty of suggestion at https://www.bopalantgard.se

If you're going to Småland it really doesn't matter that much if you're flying to Stockholm vs Copenhagen. Pick whatever option has the best price. There are direct flights to both from Chicago. If you're flying SAS you can book a flight all the way to Kalmar or Ronneby (close to Karlskrona).
