Dairy free in Stockholm?

I will be in Stockholm in 2 months. I am wondering where I can find dairy free Swedish meatballs. NOT vegan. I have a dairy allergy.

Meatballs are traditionally served in a cream sauce and often made with bread soaked in milk so I think this will be a challenge to find. I think you will probably have to either skip the meatballs or go with the vegan version.

The vegan restaurant Verte apparently serves a vegan meatball made with a meat substitute that seems to have good reviews. I haven’t been there.

I did a search for Stockholm dairy free (mjölkfri) restaurants (in Swedish) and came upon this website:
https://butik.allergimat.com/platser.asp?city=1&diet=8&dietName=Mj%C3%B6lkfri&namn=Stockholm
It looks like many of the restaurants mentioned are vegan.

I checked the menus for some of the places I typically tell people to go for meatballs and didn’t see any dairyfree options that weren’t also vegan..

A Swedish allergy guide says Skansen, especially Terassen but that is closed for renovation, so the info isn't that up to date. Three other places at Skansen are run by the same company (I don't know if they had Terassen too when it was open). But at least it's worth asking at one of them if you visit Skansen.

  • Restauration Gubbhyllan
  • Stora Gungan
  • Sommarköket (meaning summer kitchen so might no be open)

In Sweden people often refer to it as an allergy to milk protein, so I recommend you to do the same to avoid any confusion.

I noticed that the restaurant Meatballs for thr People indicated they had meatballs that were lactose free but that they could contain milk protein.
