Copenhagen to Ystad - car or no car

dad and I are going to Ystad because we are big wallendar fans. We have one day and night. Plan is to arrive in Copenhagen and train to Ystad for one night and then return to Copenhagen late the next evening.
usually I avoid having a car , esp on arrival, but I am concerned that we will not be able to tour without one. Only autotransmission car is at Copenhagen airport.
anyone do that drive? Anyone do ystad without a car?
Thanks

Ystad is not very big and unless you want to tour the countryside, I don't think there is any need for a car. I'm not too familiar with the Wallander tours, but this one from the tourist office seems to be a walking tour. https://visitsweden.com/wallanders-ystad/

Rent a bike: http://www.visitystadosterlen.se/en/sitesearch/results?g=bicycle+rental

EXPERIENCE YSTAD AND ÖSTERLEN BY BIKE!

The absolutely most pleasant way to get around in our area is to do it
on a bicycle. One of the many advantages is that the villages are
close as well as the small fishing villages along the coast. Whiz
forward on small and winding bicycle friendly roads and trails, far
away from busy roads. Attractions, cafes and restaurants are located
near the trails. You can get closer to nature. You might even find
your own favorite spot ?! The area is characterized by the open
countryside with apple orchards, golden rapeseed fields and wide
meadows, the light over the sea and picturesque fishing villages.

At the tourist office we let you know about excursion destinations and
interesting bike rides. Maps with route suggestions are also
available. If you are unable to bring your own bike, there is a good
selection of bikes to rent in the area.

We took the train from Copenhagen to Ystad in 2015 and didn't need a car at all. The city is tiny. We even took a local bus out to Ales Stenar (ask at the TI in Ystad for schedule). One note, though - if you have a rail pass, get it set up to use in Copenhagen because Ystad's station cannot do this.

I would suggest using the train. You are able to by a lot of different tickets with big discounts on the web for these communications. BTW, when you are in Ystad I would suggest taking the boat to Bornholm. It is an 2 hour and 45 minutes boat tour that must be fantastic now in summer. Also the island is gorgeous with a lot to see and exeperience.

Hej bl,
I will be in Ystad for 2 nights in July. Can you elaborate a little more about Bornholm and the boat ride? Are you referring to the ferry? If I don't have time to visit the island is the ride worth it for itself?

Tack

The boat to Bornholm is just a regular car ferry and it's a rather dull trip. Unless you have a couple if days to explore the Island, dont bother.
