I've just starting planning a Scandinavia trip for next summer. I'm trying to whittle down the itinerary, and I'm wondering if the boat to Helsinki goes through the archipelago, near some of the islands in Rick's "Stockholm's Archipelago" chapter. If not, I can consider taking a day to stop and visit one of the islands.

The Stockholm archipelago? It's a bit tricky to reach the Baltic sea by boat from Stockholm without going through the archipelago.

I took that boat from Stockholm to Helsinki a while back. At that time, it was know for being a booze cruise.
I took the overnight trip so there wasn't much to see but as mentioned, the Swedish archipelago is made up of hundreds of islands so if you go on a day trip you should see a good amount.
