Let's kick-start this new conversation space! What's your favorite destination in Sweden and why?
All right, I guess I'll get this conversation rolling. Other than a few hours in Stockholm, I've really only visited one region of Sweden, but I loved it. The ski resort of Åre and the surrounding area in Jämtland county. I've heard that the countryside in Sweden, at least in the south, can be rather uninteresting, but this region is a nature-lover's paradise. High mountains, lakes, pristine forests, waterfalls, dotted with cute little hamlets, featuring the distinctive red Scandinavian wooden houses. The ski resort itself, although it's Sweden's biggest, has much more of a rustic feel than some of its larger counterparts in the Alps. I would love to return here in the summer to hike the newly refurbished Way of St. Olaf down to Trondheim in Norway.
Not a destination, but a must do! The Nobel Museum is a must for a scientist. The stories of the teamwork that led to these discoveries are inspiring. It is all so modern and well presented both with posters and film clips. If ever I am back there it'll get a return visit.
