Arlanda to cruise ship

We'll be arriving in to Stockholm via the Arlanda Express ( on Sat. Aug 11th). I have prepaid for this reservation but only have a reservation code. Do we just board and show a conductor the code? Or do we redeem at a kiosk or ticket window?

We will then need transportation from the train station to our cruise ship at Stadagarden 160. We are 4 adults, each with 1 med/lg piece of luggage each. I am planning on hiring an Uber XL on arrival. Do you think this is a wise choice? Is Uber (and esp XL) widely used in Stockholm? I thought of Uber vs. taxi since I don't have to worry about currency as it be already covered with my stored credit card.

If we chose a taxi on location, would they accept credit cards? I am trying not exchange for Swedish currency as we will not be in Stockholm very long.
Thanks,
Cindy

I don't know how common Uber is in Sweden, they have been under fire in the Scandinavian countries because they don't follow the local laws here. Taxis in Stockholm accept credit card. Sweden is an almost cash free society and you can pay with cards everywhere for even the smallest amounts.

Thank you. I am beginning to think a taxi is the way to go if they accept credit cards.

Everyone accepts cards in Stockholm. Cash on the other hand may not be accepted.

Stadsgården is only about a mile from the Central Station. You can just pick up a taxi in the queue. Taxis in Stockholm are unregulated, so choose Taxi Stockholm, Taxi 020, or Taxi Kurir which all have fair rates. All the taxi companies will take a credit card.

It is too late now, but for future reference you can get a taxi from Arlanda for a flat rate; for four people, this would have been comparable in price to the express plus a taxi.

Thank you all for those helpful replies.

I know I could have hired a car for pickup at Arlanda, but time is of the essence and we wanted to get to the ship ASAP.

Just one more thing...

Are gratuities expected for taxi drivers? How does that work with the credit card? Just add onto fare rate? If so, what would a fair rate be for a brief trip?

Laura: the AE has deal now, 4 for 500, which isn’t bad.

Cindy: tips are not expected, but you are expected to be able read the Swedish on the card machine, it says something like “enter total.”

Yes, that is a decent deal. It is just one could have gotten a taxi from Arlanda to Stadsgården for about the same price and avoided the need to change at Centralen and pay a taxi for the short distance to the port.

We used uber from our Hotel in Stockholm to the ship. It was very easy to use just like home. Sweden does not use cash much so don’t take out a lot from ATM. They are trying to go cashless.
