Arlanda Express tickets

Hi - I'll be in Stockholm later this month (first time there!) and wondering if it's smart to buy tickets for the high-speed Arlanda Express train to get from the airport to Stockholm ahead of time. On their website there is a two for SEK 350 deal which applies to a single ride Thursday-Sunday (we'll be arriving on a Friday), which seems great. But, has anyone had a negative experience buying tickets ahead of time. It looks like you just need to enter the day of your travel, not a specific time. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Read down further and you will see that the two-for-350 tickets can be bought out of the vending machines at the airport station, so no need to buy in advance.

I came close to buying a ticket before arriving but realized after covering 350 sek to usd that at$40 it was not worth it too expensive for what you get. I figured out the way native travelers most workers at the airport take to get to work and that is by taking a bus from the airport and then transfer to a local train. But I am still in good physical health & tend travel light carry on bag so this may not work for you.

Yes, but it is a fast and direct way into central Stockholm.

It did not seem inconvenient. And I'm never in that kind of a hurry and why not make Stockholm more affordable

I was on a business trip. Nothing like an expense account.

It is too late now, but for others traveling : I bought my one way ticket on Arlanda Express 90 days out and my credit card was charged 17 USD. It usually takes me an hour or so after a flight to get me land legs (and brain) back, so something simple seemed best to me. Plus, I have never been on a high speed train so the experience is worth something. I could also go the train from Marsta with my travel card pass but decided on this.

There is a bus to Märsta where you can change to the pendeltåg (commuter train) that is covered by the SL kort. However, the trip takes about an hour and unless you are on a really tight budget, I would not suggest it.

Take the Arlanda Express. Can't think of any negatives to buying it in advance unless you cancel your trip.

I bought mine in advance. You don't get a ticket, at least I didn't. All the conductor wants is the credit card you used to purchase the ticket. The ticket shows up in his machine. Pretty neat. Love Sweden. Bring a good credit card as you will never need to use cash.

I bought mine a few weeks ago for my trip at the end of this month. It was $17 and I received an e-mail that gives you a code to present when traveling. It also says "This is your ticket. The journey is registered with the code below." I just printed off that e-mail and will use that when traveling. From looking at their website, trains depart six times every hour during peak hours and every fifteen minutes at other times.

I am in Stockholm now and took the Arlanda Express from the airport, then the metro to my destination. I downloaded the Arlanda ticket app which is very easy to use, set up a quick account and bought my ticket while I was waiting for my luggage. Just before I got on the train, I activated the ticket as it's valid for one hour. There are also plenty of ticket machines nearby which all take credit and debit cards. Everyone uses credit cards here, cash is rarely used. Beautiful city, English spoken everywhere.
