Archipelago tours - private charter vs Stromma

Hi all -

I tried to search the forum but didn't see much info. There are a bunch of private boat operators operating out of Stockholm. Has anyone booked one for an archipelago tour? Wondering about the pros and cons vs Stromma other than the obvious: higher cost! We're traveling in late August.

Thanks,
Michael

In 2024 we took the Cinderella II Stromma boat from Stockholm to Vaxholm. We loved the view of the archipelago from the upper deck. It was a 50 minute boat ride to Vaxholm with 2 stops. We purchased one way tickets in advance for a certain time. Some passengers on the Cinderella II were going on to other places in the archipelago. Vaxholm was very charming and we enjoyed it.

Returning to Stockholm from Vaxholm we took the Waxholmbolaget boat, an older wooden boat. We took whatever boat was going to Stockholm when we wanted to depart and paid on board and showed our ticket when we disembarked in Stockholm.

We did not research any private boat operators, so I cannot speak to that. The Stromma Cinderella II boat was great.

Just returned from Sweden. We took the Stromma 2 1/2 hour Archipelago Cruise and thought it was one of the best guided cruises we've ever been on. Live guide (very personable and approachable), small canteen and sit down restaurant, comfortable indoor and outdoor seating.

I took the guided Stromma 2 1/2 hour Archipelago Cruise on May 23rd. I didn’t find the boat (M/S Östanå I ) to be terribly comfortable compared to others I have been on. Also, I arrived 45-minutes prior to departure and there was already a long line of people waiting. So, my seating options were limited.

One day while we are in Stockholm, we thought about doing an all day archipelago tour (not just a few hours, but an all day trip to go out and see the islands and that area). I found one –Stromma has an all day Thousand Island tour. But their website doesn’t seem to allow booking it (maybe it just isn’t open for the season yet, but given that it is June now and I keep trying it, seems like it would work if it is available).

In any event, I’m not tied to them or that trip, but I just thought I would reach out and see if you happened to have any advice or recommendations on such an all day tour (we are open to even a small boat type cruise of the area—have done something similar and had fun).

Anyway, any thoughts or advice (if you have any) would be great! Thanks.
