Am I missing something?

We’re planning a Denmark and Sweden trip this October so we bought the RS Scandinavia guide. One of our stops will be Goteborg, the country’s second biggest city, but the guide doesn’t seem to have any info on it. The Stockholm section seems strong, and there is info on the neighboring areas and the Southeast coast, etc but squat on Goteborg. Is this correct? Seems like a very severe oversight.

RS includes only what he likes. Take "Rick Steves' Europe" very literally. Many omissions of towns/cities, regions, and venues within cities otherwise included depending on his preferences.

I enjoy hitting my library for a range of guidebooks when I start planning for a first visit.

Rick Steves' guidebooks, like most other travel guides, are highly curated. His guides are not meant to be all encompassing.

For travel anywhere on this planet, it is always best to consult several different guidebooks or blogs or websites or whatever your favored means of research is.

Stop by your local library or bookstore and take a look at recent editions of Lonely Planet, Fodors, Insight Guides, just to name a few.

Enjoy your planning and your trip!

I would use the modern name Gothenburg to look up things. It appears to have a lot of culture and history, etc. Sweden is a bit more expensive then some European countries. Go for it! Places that are not on everyone's bucket list can be more enjoyable for having less tourists. Bon Voyage!

That is the problem with using guide books that are so selective. Göteborg is a great city well worth some time.
