Airport Transfer in Stockholm

I arrive from the US to Stockholm ARN at 1:10pm and then have a flight from Stockholm NYO to Milan at 5:50pm. I think I understand how to get between the two airports (20 minute express train to city center then 80 minute bus). However, what kind of time/ process am I looking at to get off the plane, get through customs and immigration, get my bags, get to NYO, and what process will I have to go through at NYO? I'm freaking out I made a booking error!

I'm not answering from experience, just from common sense.

The Arlanda Express runs every 10 minutes, so once you get through customs and immigration, add 30 minutes to Stockholm. Let's say worst case it takes an hour until you are able to board the train. That puts in in Stockholm at 2:30.

The bus from Stockholm to Skavsta runs on a different schedule on different days of the week, but generally around the time you'll be traveling it looks like there are buses at 2:20 and 2:50 on most days, with additional buses on some days. Let's say you make the 2:50 bus. That'll get you to Skavsta at 4:10. It's a small airport, so it's hard to imagine you will have much trouble getting checked in and making your flight.

It doesn't give you a lot of wiggle room, but you might breeze through Arlanda and be on the train before 2:00, and then you might make the 2:20 bus. But if something goes wrong, you might have a challenge making your flight to Milan.

If you end up getting delayed and miss the 2:50 bus, consider taking a taxi to Skavsta. It's an expensive taxi ride (close to $200), but it will leave immediately.

Don't freak out! Assuming you aren't able to change your booking, there's nothing you can do, and freaking out won't provide any benefit. The secret to successful independent travel is to be flexible. Whatever happens is what was supposed to happen. If you end up missing your connecting flight, make the best of a bad situation, and you'll have great stories to share with your friends back home.

Have a great trip!

The flygbuss departs from Cityterminalen which is basically across the street from the Central Station (although it is possible to connect without actually going outside).

I assume that you are taking the Ryanair flight from Skavsta to Bergamo. Make sure you have checked in online and read all of Ryanair's rules so that you understand potential extra fees. Also check the rules about what time you need to be at the gate.

For both the Arlanda Express and the flygbuss, you can save money by buying your tickets online.

Lastly, you might want to add up all the costs for getting to/from the remote airports and compare with the cost of a new ticket. Are there any flights on SAS from Arlanda to Milan that would work and are cost effective?
