Advice on honeymoon itinerary for Denmark/Sweden/Norway

Hello everyone,

I am from Singapore, and my wife and I will be heading to Denmark, Sweden and Norway for our honeymoon from late Apr to mid May (roughly 21 days). We love food and are revolving our itinerary around that, but we also enjoy a mix of city touring as well as scenic off-the-beaten path sightseeing.

We will arrive into Copenhagen on 24 Apr morning and leave Oslo on 13 May night.
Here is a rough itinerary but it is a little rough, hence i appreciate any advice you can offer:

24 Apr: Copenhagen
25 Apr: Copenhagen
26 Apr: Copenhagen
27 Apr: Train to Vaxjo (not renting a car currently) -> visit some parts of glass country
28 Apr: Leave for Stockholm
29 Apr: Stockholm
30 Apr: Stockholm
1 May: Start car rental - Leave for Dalarna
2 May: Dalarna
3 May: Leave for Faviken and stay for the night
4 May: Leave for Trondheim and stay for the night
5 May: Leave for Kristiansund and stay for the night
6 May: Leave for Alesund and stay for the night
7 May: Leave for Geiranger and stay for the night
8 May: Leave for Sogndal and stay for the night
9 May: Leave for Flam and stay for the night
10 May: Leave for Bergen and stay for 1 night (Car rental ends upon arrival into Bergen)
11 May: Bergen or Oslo?
12 May: Oslo
13 May: Oslo - end of trip

The only part of the trip that is confirmed at this stage is our stay in Copenhagen, as well as restaurant reservations at noma on 26 Apr as well as Faviken on 3 May.

Some parts that we aren't very sure about:

  1. Day trip to Vaxjo sounds very rushed and inconvenient - we are thinking of just flying into Stockholm directly, and spend more time there
  2. Car rental costs are crazy since it's a cross-country drop off. I am thinking of avoiding this by taking a flight to Trondheim on 3 May and drive to Faviken instead. However, this might mean that I miss out on the Dalarna region.

We are extremely open to ANY suggestions on the scenic sights to do/see - i've done some research but there's just so much in the region that I am sure I am missing out on.

Thank you so much in advance!

Regards,
Sean

I think your itinerary looks reasonable. Regarding your car rental issues, you have already found out that renting a car in one location and dropping it off in another involves serious extra costs. Have you considered going straight to Oslo from Stockholm and renting the car there and doing a loop via Dalarna, Trondheim and along the western fjords down to Bergen and on to Oslo? This will avoid the extra drop of fee, with only a little extra driving. Driving in Norway is easy, but be aware that it can be a bit slow at times, due to the mountains and ferry crossings across the fjords. However it is also very beautiful, Take your time and enjoy the views. Thank you for your suggestion, Morten! It is indeed something we have not considered and makes so much sense! We made changes to our itinerary below:

24 Apr: Copenhagen
25 Apr: Copenhagen
26 Apr: Copenhagen
27 Apr: Copenhagen // Train to Stockholm
28 Apr: Stockholm
29 Apr: Stockholm
30 Apr: Stockholm
1 May: Flight to Oslo // Start car rental - Leave for Dalarna
2 May: Dalarna
3 May: Leave for Faviken and stay for the night
4 May: Leave for Trondheim and stay for the night
5 May: Leave for Kristiansund and stay for the night
6 May: Leave for Alesund and stay for the night
7 May: Leave for Geiranger and stay for the night
8 May: Leave for Sogndal and stay for the night
9 May: Leave for Bergen and stay for the night
10 May: Leave for Flam and stay for the night
11 May: Leave for Oslo // reach around noon // end of car rental
12 May: Oslo
13 May: Oslo - end of trip

Checking the drive times, it looks like we won't exceed more than 5 hours of driving daily, so that seems not so hectic for us, but it also meant that we had to insert stays in Sogndal and Flam to break the journey slightly.

2.5 days in Oslo seems a bit short but I guess we can't have the best of both worlds!

Checking the driving route, I noticed a few ferry rides - will this be very expensive? I've read that the scenery is spectacular and not to be missed.

Appreciate any feedback on my itinerary - especially on Dalarna and the western Fjords! :)

Glad I could help.
I have only driven a small portion of your proposed plan, so I don't have that many specifics to offer, but driving for 5 hours in that part of the world is a joy with amazing views around every corner. I don't know about the ferry prices, but Norway in general is very expensive ( I hear Singapore is as well, so it might not be that big a shock for you).
In my opinion Oslo is not as interesting as Copenhagen and Stockholm, so I would not feel bad about only spending 2,5 days there.
