Added Questions re: Waxholmsbolaget ferries (from Stockholm to Vaxholm)!

Hi there,
We are in Stockholm now, and it’s a wonderful city! We plan to take a public ferry to Vaxholm today, but are confused by the conflicting information we’ve seen online, and are hoping for clarification.

I read on another post here that a single SL ticket is valid for the ferry from Strömkajen to Vaxholm (43 SEK).
The SL site says that SL tickets are valid on 4 transit lines: 80, 82, 84, and 89 (https://sl.se/en/getting-around/how-to-travel-with-sl)
But the ferries shown on the schedule to Vaxholm are 2, 4, 11, 12…are any of these part of those 4 lines?
Also, I see that the stops are different depending on which ferry you take to reach Vaxholm; is there much difference scenery wise?
Last, how do you validate your ticket once on the boat?

I can’t find this info on the SL or Waxholmsbolaget websites, so any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

It's usually better to post questions a bit in advance since you can't expect fast answers here. But I hope you enjoyed the trip.

Yes, thanks, you are right, and we’d have benefited from planning ahead. It was a spontaneous choice. We ended up asking the hotel concierge if we could use a single SL ticket on any of those Vaxholm ferries, and she said yes, so we went ahead and did it. We validated our tickets once on board, and tapped the QR code from the SL app onboard as well. It couldn’t have been easier. We followed the RS walking tour. It was a lovely day.

Thank you, Laura! I didn’t find that link when I searched, but it’s great info.

Heading to Stockholm next month. I should probably know this but where would I find the Rick Steves walking tour for Vaxholm?

Hi A.K.,
The walking tour is in his Scandinavia book. I don’t know if he has it elsewhere, but we liked it. It took us to nature spots and an adorable residential area we wouldn’t have found otherwise, mainly at the latter part of the tour.
