3 night trip from Gothenburg

We are doing a trip in mid July that includes Norway, Copenhagen and Sweden.
Part of our group will be staying in Gothenburg for 7 night to play in a soccer tournament at th end of the trip. But a few people want to go off and explore somewhere else in Sweden for 3 nights. Stockholm is the obvious choice but does anyone have any other suggestions?
The teenager is hoping for some down time and is looking for a resort type place with a pool and beach. Any nice areas within a few hours by train of Gothenburg?

You could just do a search for nice beaches in Sweden, they're all over. I'd suggest for a relaxing downtime you could look into Kalmar and the Island of Oland. It's popular and touristy, but we were there in July and it was not overpowering. We loved it both in Kalmar and the night we spent on the island. Kalmar has a castle that you can tour. There are scenic lighthouses on each end of the island, a bird protection area (it's a major stopover area for migrating birds) that is quite interesting, and some old ancient ruins of early villages (Viking era).

It sounds like you need to nail down what experience you want. City? Country? We'll be on the West Coast of Sweden in May after some days in Stockholm. After training to Gothenburg, we're opting to go up the Bohuslan Coast to a place on the water for a few days. That whole area has been calling me since I started researching it during COVID lockdown. We're getting a car for this which is unusual for us. You could look into Marstrand which is a ferry away. It was my second choice. Varberg seemed pretty beachy. Maybe you could go as far south as Lund and Malmo. If Stockholm isn't on your original itinerary, it might be worth the time investment.

I assume the tournament mentioned is Gothia cup?

What does the full itinerary look like? Where are you coming from and where are you going? Knowing that makes it a lot easier to give advice on where else to go. As well as what you are looking for and interested in. Stockholm is as mentioned a good option that should be a stop on your trip.

As for places with beaches, the west coast is littered with them. Varberg, an hour south of Gothenburg, has a great beaches, and is a charming town. Resort type places are rarer but there are a few, you might want to consider Tylösand just outside Halmstad.
