Where to put euros on flight

I hope it’s just a little emergency fund and not a ton of cash! If I had to be in this position, I’d put it in various spots in my carryon, not in any luggage I could be separated from, and if she does not know about money belts, find out asap!

It’s extremely rare that she’s going to get “mugged” on her flight. And I agree with the above, limited cash and a bank card.

Does she have a moneybelt? That would be a comfortable & safe place to carry them assuming she has paper money, not coins. Where is she going to study? I remember my daughter spent a semester in Malaga Spain and had to take a public bus every day where she was constantly 'chatted up' by men (evidently it went through a famous sex worker area.) I worried about her of course when she wrote me this (the days before online communications), but she really never had anything scary happen to her. Encourage her to walk like she knows who she is and where she's going

She is not going to get mugged on the plane. I keep my money in an interior zippered pocket of my purse and I keep that under the seat in front of me. I take my purse with me to the restroom.

the airport and the rest of a ground transport journey can be a place to get mugged or lose money, and some of us get flustered during travel especially when sleep is disturbed, so being organized is a must. If she has some toiletry bags and the like, that is often where I’ll stash a bit of cash. But again, I’m never carrying enough money to be worried about losing it.

Where would she put her money if she was travelling at home? Do the same for this trip.
Trying to do something different is just asking to make mistakes and lose the money.

The likelihood of her getting ‘mugged’ is virtually zero and even lower than that at an airport etc. Misplacing her possessions when distracted is much more likely.
Where ever she does put the money she should avoid constantly ‘checking’ it. Doing that is just showing any thieves that might be in the area where to target.

And FWIW she should NOT put any of it in checked luggage, in the off chance that goes astray in transit.

I have all my cash Euro and $ on my person concealed in the neck pouch and hidden pocket, plus a bit in the wallet and pants' pocket.

1000% this. When my son studied abroad in London, on the FIRST day, in his jet-lagged state, he left a small backpack on a bus. Lost a $250 Kindle Fire that his aunt had just given him, along with some other things. (Luckily NOT his passport.)

As others have stated, she won’t be ‘mugged’ on the flight, but I personally know two women (travelling solo) who had money stolen from their handbag as they slept in the plane. Because I like to have some cash on me, I now wear a Stashbandz under my clothing. In it, I keep my credit cards, passport and any money. More comfortable than a money belt and can’t be seen. However, don’t be like me and wear it through airport security as the zip set off an alarm and I had to remove it at screening

Oh bless. She needs maybe 100 Euro in cash as she will use a bank card to withdraw from Europe, right? No one gets mugged on a plane. Europe is safer than anywhere in the Us.

I wpuld normally just keep my cash in my wallet, particularly for Europe where I'd be relying on card mainly. What we did do for our daughter when she studied overseas was ro advise hwr to split her cards and keep a backup debit card in her passport wallet, in hery carryon. But yes, zero chance of being mugged.

As a whole, US suburbs and rural areas are just as safe or safer than Europe as a whole. US inner cities are obviously a different story. When traveling in Europe, I always make sure I put my wallet in my front pockets for crime prevention, that’s not really needed in the US unless you go into the obvious crime-ridden areas.

We carry our euros,dollars,and credit cards in a security pocket pinned inside our travel pants as soon as we get through security. We only keep out one credit card and a few euros at a time. It has worked for more than ten years and we will continue to do so.

inquiring minds want to know - she travelled yesterday, right? How did it go? Did she take any of the advise here? Sorry we couldn't get more answers out quicker for her.

Is she going to Italy where her mom spent time?

Thank you for all your replies. She had her small bag around her and kept it on her throughout flight. She is a smart kid and has been to Europe a few times. I think when we don’t go with them we just want them safe. I’m jealous of all the places she will visit
