Zaragoza / Madrid Oct 12

This post has a different focus than my last one with a similar heading. Those questions were answered and the entire thread was deleted by admins (I believe due to persistent rude posting by someone else on an unrelated topic).

Hola!
I will be taking the train from Barcelona to Zaragoza the night of Oct 11th. On the 12th, I will be attending the recortadores (non-violent bullfight / bull-leaping) at the Bullring, then getting on a train to the Madrid airport area to spend the night and catch a flight early on the 13th.

1) Which trains / buses do I need to take, locally? Do they join up with the intercity train network? Which stations should I be looking at?
2) Is there a good hotel that would be convenient for the night of the 12th? We will be stashing backpacks either there or the train station during the day.
3) Any other insider Zaragoza / Saragossa information would be greatly appreciated. The entire city is missing from the RS Spain 2019 book! LOL

Gracias!

Welcome back again to the forum. From Zaragoza Delicias train terminal, you can catch your train to Madrid Puerta De Atocha on the 12th of October.

The last train leaves Zaragoza at 10:43 pm on 10/12 for Madrid.

Stay near Atocha station since your train from Zaragoza will be arriving there. You can take the Airport Express bus next morning on 10/13/19 from Atocha to Madrid airport which costs €5.

There are several hotels just across the street from Atocha train station including: Only You hotel, hotel Mediodia, Sleep N ’Atocha, NH Madrid Atocha. It is also easy enough to walk to the central areas from Atocha. There are also several bars and restaurants around the Atocha area.

This hotel above is close to Atocha too. Browse link

Hello, if you are looking for options to stay the night in Zaragoza there are two places I've been that I would recommend:

Hotel Eurostars Zaragoza: this hotel is directly in the Zaragoza train station itself, it will save you time of getting on the train in the morning to Madrid. Not the most quaint local but gets the job done.

Hotel NH Ciudad de Zaragoza: an incredible location for a very reasonable price, directly overlooking the Pilar Basilica and the old Roman walls, in the old town. Recently renovated and very modern.

As mentioned in the other thread (that was removed) the best place for tapas in Zaragoza is an area called El Tubo. Another place is a Gourmet Food Market off the Plaza de España, called Puerta Cinegia Mercado.

Don't miss the Roman Theater of Zaragoza, only recently rediscovered, and also the Moorish Aljafería Palace, the most northern medieval Islamic architecture of Europe.

The EuroStars is a solid business-class hotel, but it is in a food desert. The hotel restaurant was closed for the summer during my 2016 stay, with just some limited room service available. The fruit plate and cheese plate were fine. The pizza was a low-end frozen product. I assume the restaurant will be fully open in October, but I can't encourage you to patronize it.

There seems to be frequent city-bus service from the rail/bus station to the historic center, with at least some of the buses stopping near the Aljaferia.

Oh no! Thanks for telling me - We are foodies much more than late night party animals. I will investigate... fortunately the booking is cancellable without a fee. :)
