Would You Rather...Barcelona Monserrat Edition

Hi All,

A crazy idea came to me while I was researching the day trip to Montserrat (and specifically the hours... several places have closing times after the last train), which I was originally planning for a Tuesday day trip from Barcelona while we're there for our three nights in the third week of June.

Currently we have one night in Barcelona (scheduling issues), then three nights in Valencia and back to Barcelona for three more nights, then onto Girona for two nights. The day we return to Barcelona from Valencia is Sant Joan's Day (not a problem, but there are some limitations I will need to plan for). I like to hike and am an early riser.

Given this, would you rather:

1) arrive in Barcelona (airport) from Iceland at 2:45pm and go directly to Montserrat and stay overnight there before going to Valencia the next day; leaving three full days for Barcelona sites

OR

2) arrive in Barcelona (airport) from Iceland at 2:45pm and go to the National Art Museum of Catalunya, stay overnight before going to Valencia and then doing the originally planned day trip to Montserrat when we return to Barcelona.

I would pick option #2. I wouldn't want to leave Barcelona to go to Montserrat in the late afternoon.

I was thinking one full day of travel, with a peaceful night at Montserrat, hike in the am, seeing the sites there first thing and then going onto Valencia (through Barcelona, granted) the next day might be a good alternative to the two half days and one night in Barcelona prior to Valencia.

We are traveling by train though, so weighing that with the benefits.
