I am having trouble finding wineries that either have tours in English or that allow walk ins. I understand staffing and space is an issue so they don't want herds of people just showing up. Any ideas? We are going in October. I looked at hiring a driver for the day but that was an issue too as we are staying in Valladolid. We can take a bus to Penafiel. Help.

During my youth I actually lived in Valladolid for a while, and studied at the university.
Peñafiel is one of my favorite ruined castles in Spain, and I have visited it several times.
The trip is less than an hour--only about 35 miles.
Many wineries require appointments, and have limited hours for visitors.
You can try to arrange everything independently, and either rent a car or hire a driver/taxi, or check out the bus schedule.
The other option is to try to go through a company and have them assist.

There’s a wine museum in Peñafiel castle. I believe one can do tastings too. The castle itself is nice to walk through and it isn’t very large.
I don’t know anything about it, but look at Bodega La Olmilla.
We had a rental car when we visited.
