Wineries in Catalonia region of Spain?

It's time to start the research for a Christmas time trip to Spain! We have settled in on spending time in the Barcelona area for the holidays. It will be likely from around Dec 17-30th. As I work on my plotting and planning, I am trying to understand more about the different wine regions near Barcelona and I would love advice from fellow travelers. I have not yet decided if we will try to do day trips to the wine regions, or spend time staying over in wine country. Here are my initial questions:

  1. Have you visited any of the wineries within 2 hours of Barcelona? Any particular that you liked, or wish you had skipped?
  2. Did you stay over night at any wineries that you would recommend?
  3. Did you drive around wine country yourself, or have a driver that took you different places?

My hubby and I really enjoy toddling through wine country, and have done this in several countries. High season, low season, it's always pretty awesome. Would love some advice from locals on this or others that have visited these areas!

While I can’t provide an answer about wineries in that area, be aware that the limit to be considered drunk driving is lower (0.05%) than in the states (0.08%). Since I always do the driving, my wife will do the tasting and I’ll wait to drink until we’re back at the hotel.

I visited 3 wineries in 2019. Two in the Priorat region: Ferrer Bobet, http://www.ferrerbobet.com/inicio-en.html and Mas Doix, http://www.masdoix.com, and one in the Penedès region, Carol Valès cellar, https://cellerscarol.com, which is a cava producer. They were all very interesting and very informative and very nice. The tours included information on their growing techniques and overall approach to winemaking. The Ferrer Bobet winery looks like something out of a James Bond movie. It is really cool with beautiful views. Mas Doix had just won some prestigious award and were therefore running late but were still generous with their time and their pours. I liked Carol Valès the most, but that's probably because it was a hot sunny day and we had ridden bikes there so the cava tasted particularly good. Carol Valès also has an Airbnb. We had a driver to Ferrer Bobet and Mas Doix - I wouldn't want to drive down the mountain at Ferrer Bobet after a tasting.

Edit: The new tasting room at Mas Doix wasn't open yet when we visited so we were in their old office/storage cellar, which was kind of interesting in and of itself.
