Wine tours near Laguardia?

My husband and I are renting a car from Madrid airport to drive through wine country and spend 3 nights in Laguardia. Sounds like we should NOT plan to drive to wineries after wine tasting (which is the point of visiting). Does anyone have recommendations for visiting a variety of wineries in the area with a hired driver? Suggestions as to which wineries to visit? We will be there March 21-23.

Hi Debgemo,

you might want to think about staying in Logroño, instead of Laguardia. Laguardia is very beautiful to visit, but for three nights you might find that it is too small of a village.

Three nights in Logroño would allow you to go to Calle del Laurel one night for pintxos, Calle San Juan for another night of pintxos and you would still have a night for a proper restaurant dinner.

In Logroño there are several wineries you can visit walking from the center of town or a very short taxi ride. Here is a list of those wineries. Bodegas Franco-Españolas is right just across the river and they have English tours. There are regular buses from Logroño to Laguardia, so it is easy to spend a day there, tastes, eat and drink, and easily make it back to Logroño. Another day you could get a bus to Haro and visit the wineries there and not have to worry about driving back. There are also some private guides who can take you out to some of the other wineries.

You say you want to drive through the wine country. In the summer and fall it is quite beautiful, but in mid March there really isn´t much to see. You can get a bus from the airport to Madrid that will take you directly to Logroño, saving having to rent a car and making the drive after a long flight.

Highly recommend a visit to Bodegas Baigorri which is an easy ten minute (+/-) drive from beautiful Laguardia. Wines, multicourse lunch, views were all exceptional.
