I have a few extra days to fill and thought it might be fun to stay in a Napa like town of Spain. I'm a fan of most wine from the Duero River valley, but don't really know where else I should be looking. Logistically, something within easy reach of Madrid would make the most sense but I would be up for an adventure if someone has a better idea. Any recommendations for specific towns or wineries to visit? Any and all advice welcome:)
If the Duoro valley is your destination, then you should rent a car. There are only a few buses to the region and no trains. For the Rioja region, you can easily take a train to a city like Logrono or Burgos, but then need a car and reservations to visit most wineries (Rick's Spain book covers a few).
Thanks for the tips! I checked out what the RS book has to say (why didn't I look their first?!?!) and Burgos or Laguardia look like nice places to stay for a few days. Any insider information on wine tasting tours? We would definitely want a driver....
