Going to be based in madrid second week of March--we would like to plan a day trip revolving around wine for one of our days. Any suggestions on where to start would be appreciated. TIA!

The Castilla La Mancha area close to Madrid is not very good on wines. But you have Ribera del Duero, one of the best places for wine lovers not far from Madrid, but maybe you will need sleep next of the wine country
If you have more time, La Rioja is not far, but not for a day of trip
