I have a device that plugs into the cigarette lighter port in my car, a Toyota car made in the USA. I use it to recharge my cell phone. Will this same device work in a car I rent in Spain? Same voltage? Or do I have to buy another one once I get to Spain?
Presumably your car has a standard 12volt battery? in which case the voltage will be same, the question will be does the rental car have a socket? Some makes are dropping them in favour of USB.
I have my charger in cars all over Europe. I only had a problem one time in Italy when the plug didn't fit the opening of cigarette lighter.
The ports are the same, but make sure the port you need is working on your rental car BEFORE you leave the lot. Another poster reported that their GPS died because the cigarette lighter port was not working on their rental, and they had neglected to check this before driving away.
12v is 12v, it does not recognise artificial, human created boundaries.
Thanks to you both; and I will bring both the "old technology" cigarette lighter connector and a new usb connector.
