We will be on a cruise and one of our ports of call is Malaga. I'm trying to decide what tour to take and can use some advice.
Am, walking tour of Malaga afternoon tour to Mijas
or
All day walking tour of Ronda.
or
All day tour to Granada
or
Alhambra Palace & Garden then Granada
Thanks for your advice.
The Alhambra Palace and Gardens!!! They are amazing!!! We enjoyed Malaga, but it does not compare to the Alhambra.
No contest , The Alhambra is the clear choice
Alhambra first, followed by Ronda. I’m not a fan of Malaga, and to me, the rest of Granada can be seen in a half day.
Absolutely the Alhambra! Your choices are all mutually exclusive, yes? I would have to agree that Granada is not a favorite city of mine in Andalusia. On your city tour of Granada, I would say I liked the Sacramonte area and its Alhambra views the best. Also enjoyed the Albacin area.
From a cruise it is always a rush, but Granada is par excellence. Unlike some, I spent 4 days there and enjoyed every one. Granted, it was my first Spanish city of the trip, so maybe I was looking with rosy glasses, but I spent the day at the Alhambra and did the night tour. I also got the tickets for the other moorish museums and that was another day or two walking the Albacin.
I will ask you - do you plan to take a land trip of Spain in the future? If so, then I suggest leaving Granada for a time where you can set your own pace.
Malaga was recently named a world heritage city of culture. There is more to Malaga than Brits in speedos on the beach.
Thanks everyone! Based on your input I think we'll take the Alhambra Palace & Garden & Granada tour. Has anyone been to Mijas? That will be our second choice if the first one is already booked.
I've been to Spain many years ago and most likely we won't be back. We've never been on a cruise before so trying to make the most out of the short ports of call. A cruise (first time ever) is not our usual way of traveling but we thought we'd try it since we're celebrating our 30th anniversary, this way no one has to drive or do much planning!
Mijas Pueblo (NOT La Cala de Mijas) is a hillside town with panoramic views including the Mediterranean, charming shops, very good food, and donkey taxis (famous story about those). Have been there several times and thoroughly enjoyed it! Ronda is a larger town, built on a tall cliff and offering some excellent views and the opportunity to walk inside the cliff down several hundred stairs to the river. We have found Mijas to be more charming, but Ronda has more restaurants, sights, etc. because it is a larger town. Traveling on a day trip to either place, you'd be better off to visit Mijas and see it thoroughly rather than trying to capture all of Ronda.
