Where & when are bull fights in early September? (In Madrid, Ronda, or Sevilla)

We will be traveling to Madrid (Sun & Mon), Ronda (Thu), and Sevilla (Fri/Sat/Sun) in early September. Where & when can I find a live bull fight that time of year?

Thanks!

My husband went to the bullfight in Madrid last September. You can view the schedule at madridbullfighting.com. Only Sunday’s. He purchased a seat in the shade and enjoyed the culture experience.

Thanks Jean! It appears there will be a live bull fight in Madrid on the Sunday I will be there! My other family members are not interested in going, so it may be myself. Are there typically many extra seats available at the last minute?

I am inclined to perhaps wait and see if others in our tour group would want to go with me at the last minute (sitting together). Please let me know if you think I would be safe in not buying a ticket in advance.

Also, does anyone know if Sevilla has live bull fights in mid-September? I am not able to determine from Rick's guidebook. I'd appreciate anything you know (or a Sevilla bullfighting link, such as above).

Thanks!

Depends on the matadors. The corrida will be better attended if a famous matador is appearing that day. The last fight I attended was during a festival and tickets harder to come by. We were able to purchase tickets the day of the fight from one of the vendors selling tickets in booths in front of the ring. We got the tickets, but we’re not seated in the same row. Below is a link for the official ticket seller for Sevilla.

You can look at the calendar and see what tickets are available.

Hi Ron, my husband was able to purchase his ticket the day of the event and had a choice between the seats in the shade or the sun. He arrived two hours early and purchased his ticket. He advises arriving at least an hour early, so you can enjoy the atmosphere.

I should add that I wasn't interested in going to the bullfight, but I did want to see Picasso's Guernica painting at the Reina Sofia Museum. That museum is free on Sunday afternoons, so if some of your friends would rather go there, you might want to time it for Sunday.

Jean, we are planning to go to the Reina Sofia as well. I am planning to purchase the Madrid Card (to bypass lines at multiple museums, increasing flexibility), however we will be meeting friends who will not have the Madrid Card. I was thinking of maybe going on a free time with them. Did you experience long lines/waits on the free day at Reina Sofia?

Hi Ron, surprisingly I walked right in with no line! When I left, there was a 10-15 minute line.

September is very late in the season. Madrid has the longest season so you're probably best off looking for a bullfight there on a Sunday. I expect they will be over in Ronda and likely Seville too by then.
