we are a family of four, would like some suggestions on where to stay in Madrid. would like to be close to the major attractions.

What are the major attractions for you? Arguably, 3 of the 4 top sights in Madrid are art museums. Many visitors have very limited interest in art.

Finding hotels with quad rooms can be a challenge. We booked a quad room (for an upcoming trip) at Hotel Europa based on recommendations received here. It is on Puerta del Sol, with a metro stop right out front.

Thanks for the suggestions. We would like to take a train to Toledo one day and visit the Royal Palace and the Prado one day for sure and the Puerta del Sol area.
